FAQ: Iceland on Your Own
Q: Where do I buy bus passes?
A: Bus passes can be purchased on-line by clicking Bus passes on the menu page. You can also buy them at several locations in downtown Reykjavík or Akureyri such as the BSI bus terminal, The Tourist Information centre, Backpackers Hostel and Kex Hostel.
Q: Can I hop on and off the coach wherever I like?
A: The bus drivers are very accommodating so just tell them where you want to get off and if it‘s on the way and a safe place to stop it should be no problem. If however you‘d like to be picked up at a location that‘s not a designated stop you need to contact us with the request beforehand.
Q: For how long are the passes valid?
A: It depends on the type of pass you have. Our Ring Road Pass and Highland Pass are valid from June through August, allowing you to get off the road wherever you like for as long as you like and really explore the surroundings! You can travel each leg of the journey once so you‘re always heading in the same direction along the route (the exception to this rule is when you visit Skaftafell National Park with the Highland Pass).
Our Highlights Pass and Combo Pass are time limited passes with a duration of 7, 11 or 15 days. The clock starts ticking when you hop on the first bus. With these passes you can travel back and forth along the routes as often as you like!
Please note that some highland roads may not open until the end of June so schedule your journey accordingly.
Q: Where do the busses stop along the way?
A: You can see all the stops on the time schedules and the duration of each stop. The Iceland on Your Own bus stops are designed for the tourist so we stop at all the main accommodation areas as well as by major nature attractions where we give you some time to get out and enjoy before continuing.

A: You can bring your bicycle with you for an additional fee of 2.000 ISK per
transfer. This fee is paid at the BSI Bus Terminal at departure or when
boarding the bus.
Q: What about accommodation?
A: During the summer months, it is advisable to pre-book accommodation in Iceland well in advance as hotels, guesthouses and hostels fill up quite easily during the high season from June-August.
